Keeping My Thumb Under Control

I have a reoccurring problem when I try to play a song fingerstyle which I first learned using a pick. I end up using my thumb to play the E string and this throws off my entire muting technique. Anyone have any suggestion?

Btw after lurking through TalkBass :ninja: I decided i should probably join. This is my first ever post :p
