Yeah - I get it. Sounds like he’s very approachable and relationship-oriented which is the opposite of almost all e-tailers who actually never want to hear from customers. 
And I think he actually uses Ken Smith strings himself!
One of the things I've appreciated about dealing with Jason over the years is he's very responsive to customer feedback and input. He does read what we post on TalkBass.
He's just informed me he's in the process of bringing Ken Smith back as one of the brands officially listed on the Fret Nation website. So, stay tuned...
It’s interesting to hear that GHS and Ken Smith are made by the same people. I actually just had a situation where I had a long bass with Ken Smith, slick round and a short scale with GHS bright flats. I would think they should be the exact same string, but the Kent Smith’s were much less sticky. Was this my imagination?
Just because they're made at the same factory doesn't necessarily mean they're identical in every way. Maybe the Slick Rounds go through extra polishing process according to their specs, or something... Just guessing but it's always possible.
If I had to choose, I'd rather have the Smith variety over the GHS version. I believe that there are minor tonal difference and may be other slight differences in the material or manufacturing process. I've always liked the Smiths best, but for convenience and a few other minor reasons, I've gone with GHS. With the KSmith strings had a shorter winding length under 38"....but that will likely never change.
