Chopping up a $100 bridge is not a good idea, that's more about brains than guts.
I'm always very willing to say anything in person that I do on here, my mouth has always been difficult to censor. :thumbsup:

yes, plus having a bridge with that much real estate has one other function; to cover the holes left by a previous bridge! o_O :D

i've swapped out bridges by kahler, wilkinson and gotoh that have mounting screws over a wide pattern that most replacement bridges would leave exposed. and if you have a real nice top (cocobolo, walnut, etc.), filling those holes with plugs don't always look like you want it to.

sometimes the solution is a big bridge. ;)

That looks so much better than the huge footprint of the original! If it leaves enough room to intonate properly without having to drill new bridge mount holes, I have the same bridge sitting in my parts drawer and may just give it a try. :thumbsup:

I think you might run into trouble with intonation. Part of the big footprint is length behind the mounting screws. not in front of them. Judging by the two I have on intonated basses, the most that could be removed is around a 1/2 inch

Good idea, really. FWIW, I think it looks better in gold.


But I remember my luthier saying he had to cut the bridge saddles to get this particular guy to intonate. So they are maybe an odd bit of kit.

Nice ...
re Kick-Ass long saddles - yeah, not a very good thing; really my only negative comment about the bridge. My intonation just worked out on the B and E strings (35" scale). The springs can be shortened (cut) for the fix; I didn't have to do this.
