Kill Switch price?

I want to get a kill switch placed on my bass(2 way toggle switch with one position sound and other muted). Does anyone know around how much this would cost me?:eyebrow: I know I want one but I don't know if I could afford it. Please help.:help: btw, it's for Tom Morello style effects. I would have to get it done by like Guitar Center, I would destroy the thing.

what do you want it for? just so you can mute your bass easily? or do you want it as an effect for some tom morrello type stuff?

either way, $4 maybe $5 at radioshack, $2+shipping at any internet store

radioshack waaaay overprices for this stuff... :scowl:

Seriously though, the OPs have a good point. What are you going to do with it? What bass would you put it on?

They are really easy to install, there's a thread here somewhere I'm sure that explains it.

And the footswitch is way easier -- in fact an EHX switchblade for $30 would do it without even scarring your pickguard.

Unless you replace the volume knob with it. I am a set and forget guy when it comes to bass controls, so when I build them for myself, I wire them with nothing but a on/off switch and a status LED. No volume, no tone, just a switch. It is actually pretty handy.

Does not work for everyone, but for me it works fine.

Good point -- I don't use the volume, not really. Not unless it's a bass that's a wee bit hot - but even that could be hardwired with a resistor to cool it a bit.

I do use a tone just a tad though.

Do you ever find that your amp buzzes when in the off (circuit open) position? Or do you short the signal to ground.......

I have a kill switch on my Thunderbird. I hate basses with dual volume controls, because when I want to mute the bass I have to turn down both volumes. I didn't use the tone control (just left it on 10 all the time), so I took it to my local guitar shop, and had the tone control replaced with a switch - no extra holes, and I can always replace the tone control if I ever change my mind. I think it cost me around £12 (parts and labour), although to guy that runs it always gives me a discount.

It is just what I was after.

Hmmm, i would've thought it would be the other way around - if you leave a cable disconnected at one end it acts like an antenna. Which also could be cool if you like what it picks up! :D
