Kinda bright, low tension, no drag flatwounds

Ti's will do all that you desire. I have them on my Sadowsky M5-24, and I think they pair well with bright basses, since they are little mellow. Great sustain for flats, you will like them on your Sterling. I used to have a Sterling fretless (I used Daddario nickel rounds mostly) and know Ti's will be great on that bass. TI's are particularly great in the mix (true of flats in general) warm and punchy.

Perfect! Thats cool! I'd like a set of mellow flats but I want them at not just sit there in the mix but to stand out. Like harris, even without boosting bass on the tracks you can clearly hear him. All other flats just seem like you have to isolate the bass just to hear them. The TIs seem like they are low tension, mellow, and stand out.

I have Roto's, LaBella's, Chromes and TI' flats. I settled on Chromes. I never found any stickiness on them at any time. TI's were waaaaaay too low tension for me. I'd don't think I'd ever buy them again, though I know I'm in the minority.

Even after close to a year of use, I can still get the Chromes to pop in a mix even with a passive bass. Highly, highly recommended.

You might try the Fender Nylon Tapewounds. Not too bright or dull, low tension and they feel really good. Actually, I would say they lean more towards warm and dark but still kinda bright as the notes are well defined across the fretboard.

chromes will lose that stickyness if you wipe them down with some alcohol or acetone or something similar before putting them on...just an FYI..

I have labella nylon tapes. Would they be the same?

I wish I could give an informed opinion but I've never used the LaBella tapes. If you do a search there is a tapewound string shootout/comparison of sorts in the string forum section. You may be able to find an informed opinion there.

I am getting chromes in a trade for my nylon tapes, so at least I'll know what chromes are like!

Fender Tapewounds are roundwounds wrapped in a nylon tape. They're pretty nice. Not my thing, but definitely nice strings. I've got a set i'll probably be letting go of soon as long as i can get some Roto flats if someone's interested.
In other words, anyone into trading Rotos for some tapewounds?

heya tommy.. IMO ti's are midrangey and low tension... well the Chromes light gauge are a tad stiffer than the TI's but they're snappy and have plenty of highs..

So I need chromes, roto 77s, and TIs to compare back to back.
I prefer medium gauge on strings so we'll see if that makes a difference. Oh and by low tension I really think of a string when you you are playing the note (fretting) it is hard not to bend the note. I had a set of rounds like this, then I switched to flats and the set I got were Fender steel flats. They seemed pretty tight tension (I don't have other flats to compare it too). I am getting chromes fosho now so I'll see how those are like in comparison to the fenders.
