And I just made the mental leap that I like the way the Barts look on my bass. I won't go so far as to say I prefer it, but it does now look good to my eyes. That's good enough for me!
Woo hoo! To my eyes...and granted this opinion and $5 will get you your favorite foo-foo drink at Starsucks...the blades took away from the look of the top. Which is stunning...and now only has the black color of pickups & hardware to complement it.

Here's the slap before/after that I promised in another thread. I didn't bring my "A" slap game to the Bart clip 'cause my thumb has a cut. I was screaming the whole time I played it, but that's what I do for you guys!

Hmmm, you can hear the differences very clearly when comparing the same riff, more apples to apples...
Yes indeed. I'm hoping I had the onboard EQ set the same way when I played it with the Bardens, 'cause the Bardens seem a LOT more mid-rangey in this comparison. I don't recall the difference being that stark in person, but tape doesn't lie, does it?
I'm loving the added clarity up top with the Barts. The growl is still there, but everything up and down the spectrum seems just a little less gnarly.

I'm with Jerry on preferring the look of the Bart's over the Barden's.
I'm not a huge fan of the blade look (reminds me of the old Bill Lawrence P/U's).
I'm not sure which I prefer sound wise though. I really dug the sound of the Bardens in your Roscoe. I'll have to hear more clips of the Bart's to know for sure.

Oh, I just went and checked my sound clips thread... the Barden clip was recorded in 16 bit, the Bart 24. THAT'S why there's such a difference.
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm hearing too, more clarity from the Barts, and a fuller, but more grindy sound from the Bardens.
I can see a good case being made for the Barts for sure, even if I still prefer tha Bardens(though admittedly, I'm none too sure, both sound incredible), espcially as the Barts still have plenty of growl, and sound much more "classic slap tone" to me, which seems to be the target you're aming for.
I'm betting a light eq-ing at the bass would fill it out close to the Barden's sound, for when it'd be more appropriate.

Here's a clip w/ the Bardens recorded in 24 bit, albeit through an EBS combo and a mic...

That's one of the things I love about Bardens(and old Bill Lawrence pickups too), the more modern, edgy look that the blades add.
I'll admit, though, since the Barden pickups are pretty much uncased bobbins, I'm often quite afraid of thumbplanting them, in case I use too much pressure and dislodge them.

Yeah, after hearing that one I do prefer the Bart slap sound over the Barden. A bit clearer tone with more sparkle in the highs.
I wonder what it would sound like with a Bart 3-band pre?
Yep, same strings. Not sure about the bridge and the nut. The Barden clip may still have had the original hipshot bridge and graphtech nut on there.
I'm feeling kinda bad for the Bardens, I don't think I've treated them right. Comparing a 16-bit clip (the Bardens) to a 24-bit clip (the Barts) is not a fair fight. The tonal difference is not as great as it sounds. I'd hate for anyone considering the Bardens to be turned off them after hearing these two clips...
