    Hi all,

I think this is likely a good deal for someone who can do some modest repairs and a setup:

    H. N. White Co. King Mortone Upright Bass Light Repair project Solid Body | eBay

I think it's a '50's vintage. It does have some kind of a repair evident at the button, but I think a lot of King basses are prone to that. The neck has some nice flame and the body looks pretty decent.

I would grab it myself (*note the free shipping within the USA*), but I now have 3 project basses to work on, and not too much room in the basement....

    Cheers,

    Paul (Eh_train)

The same seller had an early Kay orchestra model on today as well. I sent an offer for $225 with free shipping and they accepted it. Its a total basket case.

The Moretone sold to someone for $699. Probably a good buy.

Will, I saw the listing for the Kay you bought. Looks like tons of work, but it was definitely an early model.

I bought the seller's 3rd offering - a vintage German ply with nice veneer on the back and sides, for $500. It just needs the neck re-attached (oh yeah, plus a bridge, soundpost, tailpiece, endpin, and setup). I love getting instruments back into playing condition.

    Have fun with the Kay!

    Cheers,

    Paul
