Klos Basses-Carbon necks

Hey everyone, this thread came up on my Facebook page.

Klos guitars, starting at about 1k passive.

American made in Utah.

What do you guys think?

They look great, however they are assembled in Utah from parts sourced in several countries as per their website. Not sure what parts are from where and how it's all done, but I'm pretty sure if they built the entire thing in house from American parts, they'd highlight that clearly in their copy.

Just looked it up. They sell “silent” cables for $45. I know someone who could use a silent cable.
$1,000 isn’t unreasonable for a nice bass. But it’s a lot to risk on a total unknown preorder.

True.
Not exactly a known quantity.
Looks good on paper but so do countless basses that have a real history.
Not a bet I'd choose to make.
Other than that, rather uninspiring design.

You might be right.
$1,000 difference between the standard and pro model. It can't be just because of the pickups, tuners and bridge, can it?

That's an unprecedented price point for a carbon necked bass. I remember the G-Bass costing more than a grand back in the 90s! I'd be tempted to roll the dice if I didn't own 3 Moduli.

CF price has dropped , was $150 per lb in the 90's to $10 per lb today.

One more bass I really know nothing about. I do know however, I have a wonderful silent bass cable with Canare cable and a Neutrik Gen 2 silent angled plug and a straight Neutrik on the other end from my buddy Butch at Bayou Cables that would smoke that thing.

I met the Klos guys at NAMM 2020. Nice stuff. At the time they only had the bass prototype and it was pretty well done. They were running a Fishman piezo bridge, which i didn't love, but the rest of it was pretty well done

Those are listed as Pre-Order for an estimated July delivery, so they have zero in stock and are awaiting parts from suppliers while your cross your fingers....from their website:

"We're experiencing some delays due to COVID. Shipping times may vary from those listed."

Don't get me wrong; I have no affiliation with those folks and do not know them. They may be A+ people and run a rock solid business. Back around 2009, I had an eight year backordered wait list, so I understand. Many folks were paying in full up front to lock in the price. Personally it got out of hand and I felt overwhelmed for years. I've since stopped using that business model. In this economy, if they are not domestic parts I have some trepidation about reliability of parts and delivery dates.

It's intriguing, but the website needs work. There is not enough detailed explanation of the available options and, as was mentioned previously, justification for the price difference between the models.

I might be willing to spend a thousand dollars on a new bass from a bass start-up like this, if I can get the options I want. I'm not willing to spend two thousand.

I think they look slightly 'unfortunate' and their writeup sounds funny in places.
Not something I'll jump at but am still interested to see clips etc once more info can be had.

It looks nice and the price looks nice but they provide no specs on it. If I'm going to drop a grand on something sight unseen I don't want to guess about what the neck is like, the size of the body, what the electronics do, etc.

Apollo is a guitar name that has been around for a long time. I remember seeing one of them before. I'll look for a photo.
