Double Bass KNA DB-1.....WOW!

Hey all! I have been rolling with an Underwood for years, and although it works, it most certainly isn't a natural sounding pickup. I saw a bunch of positive feedback about the KNA pickup, and as a sheer leap of faith, I ordered one.

I am THOROUGHLY impressed!! It is clear, clean, very full-sounding and with my head set flat, it sounds FANTASTIC!!!! And for under 100 bucks, it is VERY reasonable! The Underwood is a much thicker pickup, and the included shims made the install a breeze! I like it better than the Realist and the Full Circle so far.

I own two...the second one I got gratis when I bought a used one on here without the shims. When I called KNA they said they did not have shim kits to send out so they sent me a whole DB-1 for free!!!

Cheap and they sound great, on par or better than the Bass Max, Gage Lifeline and Upton Revolution through a EDB-2 pre.

Mine's going through a Clarus or an Eich, depending on volume needed. But it is VERY clear, and not as "P-bass" as the BassMax. I wish I discovered this pickup a few years ago!

What kind of fit do you happy users recommend? I tried one and wasn't happy. Maybe I'll dig it out and try again. With a Rev solo I found wiggling until I got it just right helped a lot. When I tried that with the Kna I got howling feedback. FWIW I've been using a Lifeline for a while, but of course I'm always looking for something better.

Well, my bridge had an Underwood fitted to the wing slot, which is much thicker than the KNA, so I used the shims to get a snug fit. With mine, it's snug enough where it will move with a bit of pressure. If I understand correctly, if it's too loose it will howl and feed back, and too tight, you lose low end. Mine sounds FANTASTIC....very much MBOL. Can't wait to get with my piano player and take this out for a spin!

Yes, I’ve been using a Lifeline for a few years now with my Bryant which has got a nice middle voice. Sometimes I feel I can use just a little bit of extra top so I’ve brought my two channel Clarus out and added a KNA in the G wing slot. The two mixed together with the greater gain on the Lifeline sound very promising in my room. I’m waiting for the lockdown to finish when I can go out and gig the new setup.

Are you guys locked in? There is pressure over here to raise it so we can start playing again but the sensible people are still being cautious. It ain’t over yet.

We've played a few outside gigs here in St. Louis. Fearless Leader mismanaged the initial outbreak so badly that we don't have any effective testing routine and each state in the U.S.

is doing their own thing. I don't think we'll see anything like normal (which will be the new normal) until they can test everyone effectively and there's a vaccination of some sort. Unfortunately,

that will take a while. Here's hoping you all stay well. Just my take. Most people are being responsible, but there's very little in the way of a real policy dealing effectively with the issue.
