I didn't have time to get to the violin store this weekend so I bought a cake of Kolophonium in haste at the local store. I nearly started a fire getting that stuff on the bow and it still won't grab the string. If this is a case of the cake being too old, I'm going to ask for my && back. If it's just lousy rosin, I'll probably still ask for my $$ but I'd like to know. (I did find some negative Kolophonium comments in one thread)
I'm glad Don and Mike know what you're talking about. In French, rosin is translates to "colophane", and i think it's "kolophonium" in German... so kolophonium is a brand name ?
I've never seen the word "kolophonium" used on any commonly sold label than Petz, which is what I assume kwd is referring to. I had a cake of Petz in high school, which my teacher made me throw away. Cute bear, though:
