Korg Acquires Spector

2 QQ's
1. is Stuart's son staying on board?
2. Can I have your job?

1)hmmm... Stuart mentioned a couple of weeks ago that he has no kids. Is it possible you’re thinking of somebody else? Maybe Mike Tobias?
2) NOT YET. However, there may be an opening if I fail miserably and they send me off!

Hi Corey, thanks for popping by. You might want to check in over at the Spector owners club thread. Lots of hard core Spector brothers over there
SPECTOR® Owners Club

I sure will, FunkySpoo. Thanks for the heads up. I want to make sure that marketing and customer advocacy are coupled up.

I would be surprised if Korg cares a lot about the US built basses. If the US operation can more-or-less support itself, the US basses could help keep the brand visible and in well-known artists hands. I would expect that their interest lies more in the lower-price Legend series that is already sold through many of the same channels as their other products. I suspect the rebranding is related to the Legend series.

I am more curious about what this means for the Czech lines.

Disclaimer: I am wrong a lot. A LOT.

Actually, this is the most logical post so far.

@Corey Witt Who decides the models/finishes for a particular year’s Euro offerings?

I already have a new order for an NS 6H2, so my 2019 purchases are already spoken for.

However, I’m already planning my purchases for 2020. If it is possible I’d like to submit 2 items for consideration. If chosen, I’ll place orders for both through my Spector dealer.

I like the new EURO5 LT model released this year. I’d love that as a 6-String finished in Bahama Blue.

I’d also love a EURO6 LX, finished in Ultra Violet.

...Or the finishes could be swapped between the two models; no problem.

Well, yes and no. Obviously the US-built stuff is our flagship, and it's what the loyalists know to be a true Spector bass. But you're thinking domestically–or at least more developed economies. There are parts of the world where a U.S.-made Spector would be absurdly out of bounds, but something with a lower build cost would allow current and future players in those regions to join the Spector family. While we want to sell more basses, to be able to make more basses (and eat, and keep the lights on, etc.), we also want to make sure that the brand is robust. If we only focus on entry-level products, our brand will become synonymous with entry level, and we will lose what Stuart, Ned, PJ (and many others) have fought to build and preserve. I'm presenting a year-long marketing plan to the leadership next week, and the focus is on ramping up awareness and sales universally. There's a player for each of the Spector lines and none is more important than the others.

I asked the Product Manager about this, and the response was that we are listening to customer desires right now, but are focused on streamlining the R&D/product cycle for the next year or two. I know that sounds like a corporate/political answer, but my translation is that we are in the process of preserving what is great about the company, and looking for areas where we can refine the process of making basses for the world. We are looking from a 30,000ft view right now and color selection for any single line is not going to get much attention just yet.

Only folks I can think of is Jimmy or Anne if they are still there. Seems things maybe are now getting weird if PJ is gone. He was usually there to take care of issues. Maybe someone else has stepped into that role.
