So yestarday afternoon I was at the local GC after returning some rental equipment. (OT but the QSC 15" two way powered mains were killer, lots of volume, clear & loud. Never a hint of breakkup and we were pusihing them hard).

Back OT - they've got a used Kramer Stagemaster, I'm guessing early '80s era. Dual P-style pickups, 3 knobs & a 3 position selector toggle that I'm guessing is neck / both / bridge. Overall in decent shape for its age. Aluminum neck with the old style forked headstock. no major gouges, a few scratches and a couple of moderate paint chips that have been touched up.

I had no way of weighing it but felt pretty heavy when I picked it up. Bass is painted all black with the exception of the headstock (bare aluminum) and a 1/4" stripe of aluminum exposed beneath the fretboard, which itself appears to be some type of phenolic material. Downside if that the bass had no output at the jack. Tried all the knobs, selector, tapped on the pickups. zip. Would have liked to hear how it sounded. this is probably a simple repair, and I brought it to the attention of the in house tech and left them my card, asking for them to call when its functional.

Anyone with experience with these?

Seemed really cool but I certainly dont need another bass at this point; especially if the weight might eventually relegate it to closet queen status.

FWIW my brother had one of the aluminum necked Kramers back in the early 80s. Nice bass but was heavy and the aluminum neck was more unstable than a wood neck. He ended up getting rid of it after about a year.
These days I think of those basses as an interesting curiosity. IMO Your money is best spent elsewhere on a normal wood necked bass.

I had a pj metal-necked Kramer for a while. It sounded awesome and played really well. But it was very heavy and unbalanced, plus was lipstick red. Still, that slightly shorter scale with flats was pretty sweet. Old Dimarzios putting out the heat. Alas, I sold it.
