Krist Novoselic

Based on the last couple threads about how to get that "Krist Novoselic Sound" from his days in Nirvana, I was curious to see how many other TB'ers had checked out anything he did post-Nirvana (to date playing guitar in Sweet 75 and bass/vocals in Eyes Adrift).

I haven't heard Sweet 75, but I've owned the Eye's Adrift record since it came out, and it was one of my favorites for a long time. I just rediscovered it last night, and lo and behold it still sounds great. For those of you not in the know, Eyes Adrift was Krist, Curt Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets, and Bud Gaugh from Sublime. It's much more Meat Puppets than Nirvana or Sublime, but it's still great stuff. If you can find it, check it out. If you can't find it, shoot me a PM and I'll make sure you get a copy. :ninja:

Any other fans of Eyes Adrift?

at my bass lesson:
me: *messing around on the bassline to "smells like teen spirit"*
bass teacher: you know what krist novoselic said to me the other day?
me: no, what?
bass teacher: "would you like fries with that?"

heh sounds like it should be the other way around.

krist was in a band that was the biggest in the world at one point. and had the opportunity to be in foos. now he's in politics.

that dude... is giving lessons.

the point is that krist sucks at bass and has not been in a good band since nirvana.

and that dude that is... giving lessons has played with chuck berry and john lee hooker. i wouldn't call that insignificant. :bassist:

k well, krist has played with, in my opinion, some of the dopest musicians in rock.

dude you're just gimping yourself. sup dude, you're just trying to start a fight.

krist isn't the best bassist, and thats cool. but he's pretty dope. and thats alright.

While I sort of loath Nirvana for inspiring alot of guitarist / bassist to buy old man sweaters and pawn shop gear I always sort of admired Krist. To me I couldn't hear anyone else playing bass for Nirvana. He played the did and it was perfect for what Nirvana was doing. His post Nirvana projects were good in my eyes and highlighted alot of his own creativity that you didn't hear in Nirvana since Kurt Cobain was such a strong songwriter.

Krist is and was a great bassist for what he IS PLAYING. His basslines were right in your face in the mix and really drove Nirvana IMO. So many people say this player or that one sucks etc. Thats not cool and its not true. Does Krist suck? No. Is he Victor Wooten or James Jamerson, NO! BUT HE DOESNT HAVE TO BE! Thats the point.

You play what fits the music, his lines fit Nirvana's sound. Simple as that. Just cause he isnt jamming on his bass like Jaco doesnt mean he sucks. He played with Nirvana and they sold about 50 million records. Thats a lot more than 99.9% of any of us will ever do or achieve. I just dont understand why someone can tear down another musician like they do.

I played drums for four years and still play them. Now John Bonham was a GREAT drummer, but he is no Buddy Rich is he? Was he? NO! But can anyone here honestly see Buddy playing with Led Zepplin? Of course not, but they were both incredible drummers, just DIFFERENT. Is anyone else seeing my point here?

dude, not diggin your musician comparisons. because for one, i consider krist a better musician than those other bassists you compared him to. because he was writing music that i actually want to listen to. his bass tone was dope, and never made my ears bleed...
