Kubicki passive tone problem

Spade2you, chris2112 and anybody else here who has/had a Kubicki, this question is for you. Have you ever had a problem with the tone control in passive mode? In the passive positions, my treble control which should roll of the highs isn't. This is just crazy to me.:help:

No, I've never had that problem! Usually though, in passive mode I still like to keep my highs flat and not roll any off, so I'm not sure why yours isn't working! If the tone controls function as normal in the active modes, I can only guess a preamp problem could be causing you trouble. Which passive mode is it you're using, or does it not work in any of them?

As stated above there are no tone controls usable in passive modes. That is why there are three passive positions. I've had my Kubicki since 1986 and know for sure that is true.

Interesting, I'm gonna quickly run mine through my brothers Fender amp just to hear this for myself, surely I am a victim of psychoacoustics, or a lack of familiarity with the passive modes! Indeed though, I can't be a 21 year ownership streak, mine was made in 1989 and I've had it just over 2 years. Not once in that time though have I used the passive modes to play live or record, though passive mode 2 does sound nice.

Well, damn. Maybe only the cheaper ones that Fender made near the end would do it. This would be somewhat logical since there was only one passive setting on those. But chris2112 just rolled off the highs and obviously he has the 6 position electronics. Otherewise, he wouldn't have had the choice between passive modes.

I'll let you know what Phil says if I can reach him.

Yeah, it's good stuff. I bought mine used about 6 or 7 years ago on ebay. I watched for a long time, waiting for one to pop up. Plenty of fretless Factors just not many fretless Ex-Factors. I think I have only noticed one more show up on Ebay since. It was black like mine, otherwise I might have tried to get it too. I want one of the ones with a natural finish and then my other basses might not get used much anymore. It would be great to take two kubicki's to a gig because switching from one bass to another is sometimes troublesome for me playing fretless.
