L2000 vs Double $$

I don't know what a Double $$ is, but I say if you try both and like both and that's most important to you then go with the cheaper one that'll make you happy.
i believe he is referring to a warwick double buck bass it has two humbuckers, so the G&L L2000 and the Warwick are similar in that they both have two humbuckers, if it was me i would choose the G&L L2000 i think it would be more versitle, it has modern tones and vintage tones
They're both fantastic basses, but it really comes down to which you feel more comfortable with. Personally, having played both, I chose the Warwick. I like the feel of the Warwick neck, but there are a lot of people that don't.
Specifically, I liked the neck better, the looks better, and the tone better of the Warwick. I've always had a hankering for an L2000 (or an ASAT - those are sweet!), though
You can't really go wrong with either - I would recommend figuring out which neck is more to your preference and going with that!

I have played the $$ 5-string and like it a lot. Having said that, I chose the L-2500 over it, feeling that it did more things well. The pickup placement in the $$ is so close together that it is like having a single massive humbucker under your fingers. I think a bit more separation would have helped it. Don't get me wrong, I would be happy to play one.
I'm not sure how all this will translate to the 4-string varieties, but give the L-2000 a look. It is hard to beat as a "jack-of-all-trades" bass.

One thing to add, just as a feature comparison - I do not believe the G&L's allow you to select either pickup as single coil. I think they can only do series/parallel.

Au contraire. Stock yes they don't. In the G&L forum Dave has a sticky on how to rewire one to do just that.
For the BABE LE's Matt at Guitarman got them made from the factory with the single coil option and they kill.

I'd have to like the Warwick a lot more for that kinda cake.
I think the G&L is more versatile, but I do like how $$s sound. My favorite Warwick shape is the Streamer, but $$ Streamers are super expensive. The $$ Corvette is the best deal, and it would cost the same as a well appointed L-2000.

No doubt. MF is simply the easiest place to get an A/B price check.
I'll betcha through a G&L dealer I could get a better price as well.

Probably a dumb question, but:
How do you guys get the dealers to lower the prices.
They all pretty much use the same list/retail prices right? Also, I heard GC is really shying away from dropping anything from the retail price (just what i heard).
You can always haggle the price down.
As far as the $$ goes isn't that a short scale bass?
Warwicks have better re-sale than G&L even though I think G&L's are more versatile and great sounding basses that should re-sell better than they do.
I got clocked when I re-sold my L2500 which I apparently overpaid for used at $950 and sold for $785.00 (including shipping to CA so really I walked away with about $725).

There's the suggested retail, but it's up to the dealer what they price it at. There will usually be a typical percentage that many dealers adhere to, which ends up becoming the "street" price. Some will go a little above or below that price depending. Usually if a bass sits long enough on the floor they'll discount it more to move. There's always some flexibility in the pricing.
