Has anyone else tried these strings? I haven't seen many mentions of them on the forum, so I figured I'd make a thread. I put a set on my Sire V7 earlier today, and wow... these are cool. I'm usually a flatwound enjoyer, and I'm pleasantly surprised by both how bright these strings can be and by how thumpy they are when played with a light touch. The slap tone seems more than good enough for a non-slapper like me, and played aggressively, every note has a wonderful bark. Maybe I need to raise my action a touch! :whistle:

I'll hopefully try to record something with these strings in the near future. I'll probably work on my V7's setup a little bit tomorrow as things settle in with the new string tension.

I had them on my Ric 4003 a few years ago. The La Bella Gold White (and regular White) tapes are some of the lowest tension strings I have ever played, particularly the light gauge. I wouldn't tune them below standard and I would get a setup on your bass to adjust for the lower tension.

I switched from these strings to D'Addario Chromes because I switched from standard to D Standard tuning. They were way too floppy in n D Standard tuning. I was recording a bass line once and one of my notes was a half step out of tune after I slightly bent the string on accident (no pun intended 🤣).

Tonally, they remind me of broken in NPS rounds. They have a nice midrange to them and they work well across most genres. They're also the smoothest feeling strings I have ever played. They reminded me of pillows for my fingers - nothing like rounds or even some flats.

I've used Labella tapewounds on several basses, in the black, white, and white copper varieties. (Always the lower gauge.)
I've liked all of them, but especially the copper ones, which seem to have the perfect ratio of twang and thump.
Reading the description of the Gold/white set from the link posted says these are brighter sounding than the copper set.
I may have to give them a whirl!

"Pillows for my fingers" - definitely accurate!

And yeah, I couldn't imagine tuning these below standard. If I need a note lower than E1, I better be playing my five string. 🤣

I put a set of the 750G White Nylon Tapes on my '93 Gretsch Broadkaster, about 18 months ago. Even though it's a 30.5" scale bass, it's so physically large that it can't wear short scale strings, and all but a couple of medium scale sets are too short, as well. The White Tapes fit the thing perfectly, and sound really good, too.
Personally, I don't find them to be particularly flexible - or low tension, either. Pretty... average, to be honest. They play nicely when I use a pick, and I have a lot of trouble doing that with low tension strings. I have to say that I'm pretty happy with them, all in all... :whistle:

I am a big fan of La Bella tapes, particularly the 750 series of light gauge tapes. I have black, white, and copper tapes installed on a few of my basses right now, and it's no coincidence that they are the basses I play the most 🙂 The feel and sound are just what I'm looking for. The gold tapes are the only ones I haven't tried yet. I will get around to it eventually!

Damn alright. Do I like tapewounds?? Smooth playing, and I'm thankful for you sharing this. I'm not sure why I always thought tapewounds were much more shrill than this

You might like them! Definitely worth a try. I'm so glad I took the plunge, personally. I always assumed tapes would sound dull and lifeless for some reason, and obviously I'm happy to have been wrong. :)

I had some on this 2013 Gibson EB4 for a while. Loved em.
It's got regular black tapes on now... Just coz that's what I had available.

I got the 50-105 set. I can definitely understand how they'd be too light for some! The low tension was a big selling point for me, but I've also been trying to play with a lighter touch in general over the past couple years. These strings keep me honest.

Also, I ended up with my action a little bit higher than I'd usually go. The strings are so light that they still feel effortless to play, which is awesome.

It's funny as I play light also. It could be that my neck in my pbass is deep, depth wise but at nut is 39mm.

The tone of the copper strings are phenomenal, genuinely. I've Bartolini 8cbp pickups and my rig is the genzler Magellan with bass array cab. It sang but I didn't like the feel. I may put them on this week Again
