La Bella DTF Quiet E

The GHS precision flats are a set I’m curious to try. Glad I read this thread, as I was pretty torn between those are the DTFs, having never tried either.

Strings are a very personal choice, of course, but I'll put in a good word (actually a great word) for the GHS Precision Flats. I have them on two of my bass guitars (a Reverend Raymond and a Yamaha BB234). Good sound, good feel, and they seem well balanced across the set, in my experience.

okay I might give them a go instead of the Ernieballs. Do you prefer the light or medium gauge. I usually like 45-100 gauge.

I have had SEVERAL sets of Labella that take longer than one would think to balance out...worth the wait. I have a set of Olinto flats that JUST evened out after getting play a few hours almost daily since MARCH '24. Now they sound glorious and I look forward to years of enjoyment!

Another vote for the GHS Precision Flats 45-95. They're nicely balanced tonally right out of the package. No weak and thuddy E or bright and twangy G.

Yes. My pickups are all angled "wrong" because of how quiet the E is. To be fair, both of my P basses have quiet E strings, even with Fender flats and rounds. Maybe it's my ears?

Could be your pickups or amp or something else. I’ve found my Fender and Gibson flats to be well balanced and the E sounds strong and the G has some heft. I also wonder if I could get the La Bellas to balance better on a bass with more eq optionality. However given their heritage I’d imagine they should balance well on a passive P.

Okay maybe I’ll give the La Bellas a bit more time. If still have issues I’ll try GHS light gauge.

If this is a time for string to break in thing, a little bit of compression will probably get you by till they adjust.
