Well, after a couple weeks with my first Olinto…it's my 'go to' P bass! I've since restrung with Labella LT Flats—does everything I'd want in a P, tone-wise…with super playability. Carbonetti gold is difficult to capture in pics—really depends on the lighting. The color is fairly accurate here though…

I'm extremely happy with this acquisition, to say the least!:)

Did you specifically order the Hipshot bent plate or is that standard?

This seemed the most appropriate place to post this. I stopped by the La Bella showroom today to try out some amp heads and cabinets. They handed me an Olinto J to plug into the amp and test things out. Then I tried the Olinto P. Then I tried their short scale and then a Mas Hino 5 string.

Oh. My. Holy. Isht.

These basses are amazing. I always thought "I'm sure you can make a better bass than fender makes and charge more for it, but how much better can a P bass be than a P bass. It's a plank of wood with a single passive pickup?"

I have learned how wrong that thought process was. I'm in love. This upends all my plans on the next basses I want to buy. And now I want to just throw out my current basses. They're garbage. (Just kidding. They're fine.)

There were some trick fish head and cab involved. There were some Aguilar head and cab involved. I don't even remember anything about the amplification. All I know is I need an Olinto now. :bassist: (Well, not now-now. But soon.)

I have the Olinto P, and indeed it is amazing. There's a really unique and beautiful one for sale right now here on TB. I really love it, but can't justify having two. You may want to check it out. He has reduced the price alot.

There is one in the classifieds right now for a killer price!

Thats what I just said. Brilliant minds think alike! HAHA!!

Oh no. Oh no no no. This is terrible news. Don't tell me that! I might look at it and buy it, and that'll screw up my bass guitar and amp buying schedule!

For real though. I don't have an amp and have been playing through my computer for about 15 years. I'm over it. I should really get an amp. Also, I am starting the process in buying a Maruszczyk fretless. I was thinking a Warmoth P after that, and then I had a few others in mind again after that. I still want the fretless, but the Warmoth is definitely out, and do I really need an amp? Everywhere in NYC has back line (and I don't even play bass in a band right now!) I could skip the amp and all the other basses and just get the Maruszczyk and an Olinto, right?

Seriously, though. This group knows what's up. :woot::thumbsup::bassist:

Amps are a dime a dozen. The right basses become your family. If you love Olinto, and there's an opportunity to buy one you love at the right price, I say go for it. Even the Maruszczyk could wait. Adrian will always be there to build you a fretless. I believe new Olinto's will set you back quite a bit more than this used one. But of course you have to love it. Your Maruszczyk is being bought sight-unseen. Just my 2 cents, and your 3'ish K.

I'm probably not gonna get the used one on here. I'm not a huge fan of shipping when I can just hop on the subway to the La Bella Showroom. The extra money I spend buying new directly from the cats at the shop pays for a new bass AND piece of mind.

Although I should ask, what price point are new Olintos starting at these days?

It's only been a few hours so I'm gonna stew in my indecision for a bit a while. But really, there's no reason I can get a Maruszczyk AND and Olinto, and hold off on an amp until I need an amp, or just get a practice amp or something used locally. ;)

I am not sure of current price but, as of last year, a new Olinto J or P started at 4k and then went up from there with various mods.
