I've got a hankering after a bass with MM/P (P/MM ? you know which way round they'd go) pickup config, and I love my 55-02 and 55-94.

So I'm thinking ... 2nd user 55-02, swap the J for a P, and add a scratch plate to cover up the routes.

Here's the dilemma .... the only suitable 55-02 I've seen for a while (in the UK) is a deluxe, sunburst + quilt.

Is it a sin to cover up a quilt to with a scratch plate ? And what might work well visually (I can't picture it in my mind). I think tort next to the quilt might be too much, so I'm thinking probably black.

Of course it might be better to wait for another standard-finish 55-02 to turn up. Tort on black or black on black I know will work.

Oh ... thinking R/W neck BTW.

The Tetsuya several posts up has one on and looks fine. The tort/black/white argument essentially comes down to taste. I'd prolly opt for a white or white pearloid one.

For me, I'd feel compelled to replace the MM pup with one whut has exposed poles so that the two pups wouldn't look too mistmatched.

Not much of a burl fan, but it's nice to see a Lakkie with a wicked top on it. I find that generally Lakland fancy tops aren't as nice as those on Sadowskys or MTDs. This one helps mitigate things a little.

There were 3-4 of these at bass central. Looks like all are sold , cept this one hanging around. Prrreeetty pricey, yikes!!
I would for sure need to hit the lottery to cough this kind of money on a bass.

My pair. On the left is a 1998 4-94 Classic with Nordstrand pickups and an OBP-3 preamp (and Fender knobs!), fresh off my workbench after a little nut maintenance. On the right is my new 2010 Skyline 44-60 Custom. Actually, I'm a little confused about the proper year for my 4460. The serial number starts with 10, but the packing slip and the Plek card both indicate it left Lakland in Chicago late October/early November of 2011. I guess its a 2010...
