I just changed the strings on my 55-94 and noticed some pretty bad scratch marks right behind the bridge...

Anyone else experience this?

By the picture, I could swear at one point this was top loaded and not strung through. A little carelessly at that, during string changes. The abrasion marks are spaced to coincide with the holes in the back of the bridge to allow for stringing through the back of the bridge. And if you look closely you can see that the direction of the "scratches" are perpendicular to the bridge. Just a thought.

Yes, I am the original owner...bass is only 1-1/2 years old...I've never strung through the body...but I never would've guessed that THIS would happen...

So you are stringing through the back of the bridge then?

I always hold up the string away from the finish when I top load and then gently pull the string through to change them. Same when remove the old ones.

But I'm bummed that this happened :-(

I've had luck with using Novus 3 for heavy scratches, then Novus 2 and finally a good buffing with a quality guitar wax or car wax. I'm using a product by Meguiar's currently that they made just for guitars, but unfortunately the don't make it anymore. Glad I bought two bottles.

Make sure to use a soft lint free towel or soft sponge to apply the Novus products and don't use the same towel/sponge when changing products. Also, it might make it easier to remove the bridge when you're doing this. Hope that helps.

Yeah you have to be very very careful or the ball end of the string will scratch the bass as you take the string off..

By the way, I am sad to report that the DPLEII, which I named Dark Bob, is now moving on to greener pastures in NY. I will miss him.

I was being generous...ever heard of a "finders fee" or "introduction commission"? our current mayor got rich on them...but not me...NEVER really got one..ever..

yup...you gotta be VERY careful not to "whip" the strings against the body when top loading....I am VERY careful..

Yes I do loop my cable...but it's only behind the bridge...and only where the strings are inserted
