Lakland strings are what got me hooked on GHS. I just moved over to using the GHS branded ones because they also offer round core which I prefer.

Yes, the Skyline neck has always been slightly thinner. Someone here actually measured it a few years back.

And the Classics have the same neck profile as the USA Series.

Change of topic: Brian just reached out. Lakland site once again has 5 string sets for sale. Get them while you can as he’s not sure when/if they’ll be in stock again.

And, yes, I already placed my order.

Good to know. Awhile back I switched to D’Addario EXL170-5SL which are long enough to string through the body on a 55-94. I’m happy with those myself, just had to raise the B string saddle height since these aren’t tapered.

How do you all feel about the B, does taper core really make a difference? (age old question…)

I don’t know if it does anything for tone but I prefer them for the B string height of my plucking hand. Not as big of a jump from the E string.

I've also been pretty busy.... Just went on a week out of town for a conference and some R&R with my wife in Puerto Rico...

Dunno what's up with the notifications....

Just got my custom pickguards today to replace the one that came with my 2008 JO - I have to say, Anthony at PickGuardian does beautiful work! He was recommended to me from Brian at Lakland. I was on the fence on two choices, so he discounted me on a custom pair, which helped when you consider the back and forth costs to Canada. I think the tortoise is my fav for now, and when I need a change, ready to go!

Same, it seems like if you don't click on the next new post notification, if you miss that, you get nothing after that. At least that is my best diagnosis so far. Could be wrong. But it can be pretty annoying. I often now go up to the Forums tab, then to Watched Threads to get current.

Notifications are good, but only alert once per thread until you read it, probably to avoid notification fatigue.

I bookmark this page, and use it as my checklist to read any threads I follow that have new messages:

As a bonus, you can also see new classified ads, every once in a while there is something that catches my eye.

Mine was defaulted to HOT, and I have changed to DEFAULT to see what that does. Maybe something to play with.

It looks like after the change to 'Default' I am seeing all posts individually again.

I’ve just made a habit of hitting the hamburger menu in the upper left and choosing “Threads With Your Posts” to see if I’ve fallen off anything.

I started playing the steels when my supply of nickels ran out. I actually quite like them and they sound really good on my 55-60. Tickles that jazz bass with rounds sound I quite love.
