The 1997 is the one I would fight to keep! It is just the perfect bass for me. The pre is the original Bartolini, however the pickups have been changed to a Nordstrand MM and a Seymour Duncan jazz. The 99 is stock, original Bartolini pre and pickups. I feel very similarly about it, as well. The '16 5594 is different. Don't get me wrong, it is a great bass! If it were all I had, l would be completely satisfied. However, it feels different than the other two. Although the specs are the same, the neck has a different feel to it. Maybe it's the finish. It doesn't feel broken in, like the other 2. The body feels more angular, if that makes sense. Sound wise, the basses sound similar enough, but the Bartolini pre seems more ballsy to my ears. That being said, l really do like the 2016. It is a beautiful and finely crafted instrument. People fawn all over it when I play it at shows. And it absolutely sounds and plays great. Although I tried to be unbiased, I am probably a little biased toward the 1997. I have owned it for 20 years. It is my bass, in every sense. It feels like home. I only gig these 3, so I try to rotate them every show. I am happy with my arsenal. If you can keep your old one, you should, and get a new one! Personally, I don't think one can ever have enough Laklands. Good luck.

I was upgrading the electronics in my new Skyline 44-01 to Invalid Link Removed and an Audere preamp and, after removing the pickups, I had a pleasant surprise. Given the price point of the Skylines, I wasn't expecting anything other than a piece of foam under each pickup, but instead I found high-density foam, springs, and individual screwed-in ground leads for each pickup cavity. I've seen USA basses that weren't this nice...I'm impressed.

Sounds as great as it plays now, btw!! The original pickups and preamp were OK but kind of clanky, but my new combination is clear, powerful, balanced... exactly what I was looking for.

Please let us know how the US Barts and the Audere sound. I'm becoming less enchanted with my US Bart NTMB in my 55-01. To the point where I'm favoring my DJ and Jazz Basses (nothing holds a candle to my DJ5) considering putting the 55-01 up for sale.

The tuners are just black Hipshots. For the bridge and string tree, I shipped it to HipShot and they did their powder coating process. You can usually find local paint places to do powder coating but they quoted me over $100 just to do the bridge. HipShot did it for around $75 I believe. I purchased a spare bridge from Lakland while HipShot was doing my other bridge. It only took about 2 weeks including shipping.

I got this bass back so see which one I may keep. I can only keep one. I may be selling this one soon. I'm still not 100% sure which I want to keep. If anyone is interested, be on the look out in the classifieds.

The only thing Lakland does I think is a rip off, you supposedly have to buy their case. They said it was hard to find a case to fit my 3 TBS Hollowbody. they said they are the only one who sells one. when I got my bass it came in a box the bass itself was separate. I paid $169.00 for the case and its a cheap case. When i got it know rips or tears, but the tolex was out of the seam in a couple places, the padding on the inside didn't go all the way up in some places. For the 1500$ you pay for the bass, I would have expected a little better case. I bought recently a Road runner ABS case nice for my Jazz bass, and it was less a lot less then the cheap case I got from Lakland, and the latches are not the greatest thing I have ever seen. I would send it back but right now I need something., cause i have a few gigs coming up. does anyone know of a decent case that this bass would fit , I could send this one back it should be under a 30 day warranty from Sweetwater, I just don't know what case would fit.

Thank you for the info, too bad lakland doesnt offer the black hardware.

So did you get this case from Lakland or Sweetwater? It sort of sounds like your beef is with Sweetwater. If, in fact you got the case from Lakland, I'd almost bet you anything, if you contacted Lakland and explained the situation with your case, they would make it right. Good luck!
