Nice duo! Like the US better. The rosewood board on that one is stunning, and I’m not a rosewood guy. Blocks are a nice addition also.
Wanted to let everybody know that I’m parting with my candy apple red Scheff Bass. You can find my post in the classifieds but I’ll make a deal for anybody in this group since I wouldn’t have gotten the Scheff without the push from this group.
This seems like a good place to share my excitement: I have rejoined the ranks of Lakland owners! Yesterday I bought a used, near-mint Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ with EMG Geezer Butler pickups. It's black with a tort guard, and it was already strung with flats (which I would have done anyway). Nice, low action and it plays and sounds like a dream.
I bought new one of the first Skyline Duck Dunn models and gigged with it for a decade before trading it for an American Standard Precision Bass when Fender upped its game in 2012. I've been gigging mostly with a 1979 P-Bass in recent years.
I still like Fender and other makers, but honestly I'd forgotten how wonderful Lakland necks are. I expect to be adding the PJ to my regular gigging gear along with my '79 and my Nash JB-63.

I'm liking the Lakland better than most PJs I've ever owned/played. Maybe it's the Geezers, but the balance of the two pickups seems better.

New preamp day! Audere Classic 4-band with stacked volume/blend because I didn't want to drill a hole for a mid switch.
Any 44-64 custom PJ owners here? I'm thinking about getting one and wondering if they sound as great as they look!
I just got one, and I'm loving it so far. Mine has EMG Geezer Butler pickups in it, but I don't think you'd find the stock pickups lacking. I had an MIK Duck Dunn model with stock Fralins that was fantastic.

I've been a fan of Audere preamps for years, and have put them in all my active basses. Most basses seem to sound better after the install but I've never have one come to life after like my 44-02! The sound is a lot more open and transparent. The highs are extended, very much like that old "took a blanket off" metaphor that people use. The previous LH3 preamp seemed to have a baked-in sound, and this one sounds like the passive tone but livelier somehow.
If you're ever wanting to replace the preamp in your Lakland this would be a good option.

Hello Lakland players, I tried 3 Lakland in my life so far. A PJ, a 44-01, and a JO5. All of them were skylines. The first two had low action, correct tone to me but nothing that made me want to buy them.
Yesterday, I tried the JO5. Oh man, that bass was awesome. It’s a 2007. It has been played. It has a few battle scars but nothing I can’t live with. It’s not too heavy, it has some neck dive but it’s so perfect. You can feel every note through your chest and hands. It sounds great, it feels great. The neck is as straight as an arrow. I wanted to buy a 60’s type of jazz (alder/rosewood,60’s spacing) bass but I can’t sleep tonight. I think I’m gonna go back to the shop tomorrow and get it.
Anybody here knows what brand of pickups Lakland was using back then? They sounds great but we’re really noisy the minute I was favoring one pickup.

Agree. Put a custom Audere in my 44-01, VERY transparent. Very versatile, especially with my 6 position Z mode switch. It is the small knob in the pic. Went with 18 volt for super long battery life.New preamp report.

In 2006-07, Lakland was transitioning to their in-house pickups (from Fralins in the case of JOs). So it could be either. I’d bet on Lakland pickups since it’s an ‘07.

Is assume the 4464 customs would sound just as good...
