I inquired directly with Lakland on bass weights when making my video review of my 55-01. They indicated lack of available light weight ash the last few years. As a result they are moving to sassafras wood for newer basses.

Yes it seems the Skylines are all over the map. I have a 44-60 in the Ice Blue Metallic and it's 8.5 lbs, however, the examples the store had before I got mine ranged from 10 to 11.5 lbs. The same store had one of the 55-OS models when they first came out and (no joke) it was somewhere around 12 to 12.5 lbs. I couldn't believe it. But it's good to hear that they are attempting to address the weight inconsistencies.
I have two Skyline 55-60's with one, "BB", coming in around 9.5 lbs and my main player, "Old Glory" coming in at a stately 11.5 lbs. It used to feel very heavy on longer gigs but has seemed very manageable lately for some reason.
On the other hand, my lightest one overall is my 55-02 "Dee"luxe at 7 lbs 12 oz. I have to be carefull picking it up because it comes out of the stand so easy!

It used to be my main gigging bass when I joined the band I'm currently in back in 2018. I used it to record the majority of the first album I played on with them but then gravitated to the 55-60 for live work as 1) It sounds great -and- 2) I prefer how white/oly white basses look under stage lights. An admittedly really silly reason to be sure.
I disagree- gotta’ look good up there!!! There’s a reason some colors are considered classics!

Received my new string tree in the mail from Lakland yesterday. Installed it today. The DG strings now sit pretty much on the headstock and the G string has not popped out since.

Has anyone ever color matched the Skyline LPB (DJ/DJ5) with any readily available product (auto paint, model paint, nail polish, etc.) for some basic touchup work?
I currently own a 98 Lakland 55-94 which I love. I’m contemplating ordering a US made Lakland jazz bass (Joe Osborn). Can I get some honest recommendation on what the build quality of newer made (post 2020) US Lakland basses is like? Do they stack up to the one from the 90’s?
I would say the construction is as good or better than yours ..

I concur with @basspraiser, they only got better over the years. Just curious, why "post 2020"? Did anything change that year?
