What is the difference in sound between a 4401 and a 4402?

The 44-01 has the Korean-made Bart MK1 soapbar pickups and electronics, while the 44-02 has the same US-made Lakland (or Bartolini, in older versions) J/MM pickups preamp as the the America Laklands.

IMO it's well worth the extra price to get a 44-02. Much better tone and versatility with the American p/u and preamp.

I am divided between getting a brand new 5502 with Lakland p/ups @ $1329 and a used 5502 with Bartpickups @ $1199. Any suggestions?

How doesLakland 5502 compare with the Ken Smiths? is there much margin in tonal versatility and quality? Is it worth spending double the price for a Ken Smith in pursuit of tone?
