Lakland USA and Skyline

Very interesting. Really makes the Skylines much more reasonable.

I've owned three skylines.

Now own two USA Laklands.

The skylines are great basses for the money.
But the wood upgrades.
And added detail, of the USA basses.
Put them in a class by themself.

Ya, there more money.
But, these basses have that unexplained mojo, tone, and playability.
That will just get better with age.

+1. I played a 55-94 that had one of the best necks ever. It seemed that the Skylines weren't quite up to par. I think it has to do with quarter sawn -vs- flat sawn rock maple. There is definitely a big difference. That said, is it worth the extra dough?? I can't say. It's only worth it if you're willing to pay.

Actually, the skylines necks are totally up to par. It's just that the 'par' is going to be different on a bass that costs 4 large.

Myself, I didn't like the feel of the neck on the 55-94 that I've played. Wiether the quartersawn wood or the oiled finish, it put me off.

Again, if I got used to it, I might take a different view, but I don't feel that I got a 'budget' bass by going for a Skyline.

Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to say that Skyline necks aren't up to par with others in the price range. Actually, I think they are some of the best necks for the money. Poor choice of words on my part.

Also, personal preference is a huge thing. Some prefer the Skyline necks. I was just blown away with the 55-94 that I played.
