I used a 400RB for 20 years and still own & use mine occasionally. I've played it through about every cab combination you can imagine but… an Ampeg 410 at 4 ohms is simply sublime

Thanks for all the replies! I think Im going to check out a couple 1x15 8ohm cabs I found local. Maybe use my current combo to swing a trade. I appreciate sharing why the two 8ohms would be a better idea, and I agree that it would be nice to keep it modular!

I run mine pretty much flat between 11:00 and 1:00 on all the knobs with the contour button engaged. Cabs I use provide lots of mids, so does the Pbass I normally use with it.
My first bass amp was a late-80s 400RB that I got w/ an SWR Workingman 4x10 in 2003 just before going on my first tour. Didn't know anything about it, and I totally stumbled into a great rig there. Came in a baby blue Dietz road case, still going strong and it got played HARD for years either with my bands or backline at DIY festivals. Doesn't get much use these days but I'll never sell it as it's such a dependable amp.
This is a pretty solid setup. You can usually find these cabs (Bag End s15d) used for a song and they are pretty much bullet proof and a classic pairing with GK heads.
I think I bought all three of mine used for three to four hundred. It has been a while though. There are a couple on CL in my area for four bills apiece. In any event, great cabs for the money.
I've always liked the GK RB eq. To me, it is one of the most useful and intuitive preamps ever made. I would start with all the buttons "out" and all eq's at noon. For me, the boost is always on and set at about 2 o'clock which gives me just the right amount of grind.
And here it is! Great shape with 2 or 3 very minor scuff and scratches. It came with the ears but one is cracked at the bend.
Now I need to go cab hunting this weekend. There isn't a way to hook this up through a combo amp is there?

I don't know about the return policy, but the part about shipping is still true. I recently bought a Peavey 300 bass amp with a matching 1x15" cab from them, and it was shipped for about $30.
I have a GK 800RB (your amps bigger brother) that I run through same Ampeg SVT-1510HE I've had since hight school. It's a pretty uncommon setup - a 15, a 10 and a horn. It's a great cab, plenty loud, sounds great, handles 300 watts at 8 ohms. I searched the cab on TB and found that SWR (and another maker I don't remember) made cabs with the same setup.
Also Peavey used to make cabs with 1x15/2x8s, and others with 1x18/2x10s. (One of the latter is on guitar center - [Invalid or Expired Link Removed])
As for your EQ, I would think it depends on what bass you play. I play a jazz bass, and I set my EQ with the lows at noon, the low/high mids at 3, and the highs at noon, all voicing filters off, and boost all the way up (gives it a little growl.)
