Laney vs. Peavey

Hey everyone,

I'm going for a new amp.
After some consideration and budget assessment the possible choices have come pretty much to these two.

Laney Nexus Tube
Vs.
Peavey Tour VB-2

Two very diferent amps, i know. But this is mostly considering budget options and that i'd really like a valve amp. Sweet sweet tone.
I'd like some input from anyone who has ever tried/owned/currently owns and plays a lot with it. Everyone can read the pros and cons on the paper but i prefer some personal info/opinions.
I have absolutly zero chance of ever trying both of these models in my area so the "get what feels better to you" can't be applied here.
Any and all other suggestions are more than welcome.
I should point out that i play a couple styles, from jazz to metal, blues, and i like to experiment a lot.

Help me choose my new head guys and you'll make me a very happy bassist during 2011.:bassist:

I use transistor combo, not valve box-and-brains, but I had a Laney and the build quality was just not up to scratch. Cheap components and bad soldering). I now have Peavey again and find it more reliable.

The Laney sounded better but that was the Celestion speakers, not the amp.

(My box-and-brains rig is driven by a 1979 Peavey Mk III head so I know Peavey gear can last!)

The VB-2 is versatile because of the mid-shift. It's more than enough power and is made in the U.S.A.

I don't know anything about Laney, but I've never considered them to be a front runner when looking at amps. A couple steps above Behringer, IMO.

Laney Nexus 400 all-valve is VERY under rated, the biggest sleeper in the bass head world without a doubt. It brings the tone of an SVT with all the modern bells and whistles (dual EQ's, footswitch, FET and tube stages, more)

I also have a totally restored 1976 Ampeg SVT and I find it difficult deciding which amp to play next !
