Double Bass Larry Grenadier’s Gear

There are house systems that for some reason run phantom all the time, at least that’s what I was told, so your point is well taken. The Troll can be repaired should it have issues. Since you’re on a budget there’s a microphone, the CM3 or CM4 from Line Audio that might work. It’s a small capsule condenser. Here are the specifications.

I use them for recording.

But don't forget about phantom power to use a condenser... lot's of preamps unfortunately don't offer this feature and in my experience a real good preamp makes a lot of sense using a (condenser) mic, but it isn't really simple to find someone..:p and if you want to switch to a mic, you should check out your preamp. Otherwise it could become expensive ..;)
