Late 90s Squier bass MIM questions

I found a couple threads on these, but wanted to see if anyone else knows anything about them. I picked up this bass at a local store for about $140. It plays awesome and sounds like a P bass should. Serial shows it was made in Mexico around 1998 or 1999 and the neck appears to be really good quality, even though it has the Squier logo. Seems like maybe some fender mexi parts were used. I'll post pictures of it later... was it a great find? Or simply a nice sounding, average squire?
Thanks!

T. Brookins thanks for your reply. I've been playing this bass in a band for the last few months and it hasn't let me down! I did a couple of mods like replacing the pots, wiring, and the bridge, but other than that it is stock and I really think it sounds great. The ash is super light too and easy to play for long periods of time.
