Late nineties Chinese squier pbass

hey guys. I was just gifted my first pbass (had a recent birthday) and it is a squier with serial number "NC7..." I think this means china 97 but not sure. The frets seemed to be "rolled" which is unlike squires I have played in the past and honestly the neck reminds me a lot of a Mexican jbass I have.

Just wondering if you guys know any thing about this era of squier pbasses and if they're worth putting $100-$200 worth of upgrades into?

If you like the neck, you have a keeper.

These Squier are highly regarded as good mod platforms. Maybe new pickups and strings. Keep the Ramen sticker!

So I know this thread is old and no one really commented on it, but I wanted to post my updated pictures. I replaced the stock electronics with a Seymour Duncan antiquity II pickup and some 250k cts pots with orange drop capacitor.

I replaced the bridge with a "fender prototype" that never made it to the production line. Got it from a guy on here in the classifieds.

I struggled with the neck for a while. I really liked the feel of it, but it had way too much relief so I tried tightening the truss rod and didn't have any luck. I spent an entire evening getting the truss nut out of the neck and was going to replace it to see if I could salvage the neck. Had trouble finding an exact replacement (with it being manufactured in China and all), so I bought a mightymite and installed a custom decal (my pseudonym is "Catfish").

Lastly I threw some La Bella flats on it and I must say I'm very proud of how it plays and sounds. The satin finish on the neck is new to me so I'm still getting used to it, but I absolutely love how fast it is. More than anything is the sound improvement. I was skeptical of it making that much of an improvement but I am so pleased.

Let me know what you guys think. I'm going to replace the pickguard but haven't decided on colour yet. Any suggestions?

I have labella flats on my CV60s P. They only get better as they break in.
