Latin Jazz

Stupidly now NOT living in a south american country any more, I've really got into latin jazz but I don't know many bands or decent latin bass players. I'd really like to hear your suggestions on decent recordings both electric and db. I'm quite interested in hearing Oscar Stagnaro after reading an article on him

Hi, TaySte_2000. You don't need to live in any South American country to get involved with Latin Jazz. You can access many recordings to listening to spectacular Latin bass players and bands. Bands such as NG La Banda, bass player Feliciano Arango, or Irakere with Carlos Del Puerto, to mention some from Cuba. Oscar Stagnaro also has an amazing book about Latin bass, and there is another book by Carlos Del Puerto and Silvio Vergara. It is about the essentials of Cuban bass. Let me know if you have any particular interest so I might be able to help.

That reminds me that I need to pick this up. I really like The Bronx Pyramid, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center with Ruben Blades is off the charts great. An island 10 disc for me.

Heard this band in Charlotte last year, shaging great. Standouts (for me) were Michael Rodriguez and Manuel Valera, they took NO prisoners...
