Laurus Basses presents: "vibrating boards" above the tonal chambers

I have the fortune to have as friend, the owner and artisan of Laurus Basses.

Last week I was in his office and I saw his new innovation for his basses. The three "vibrating boards" above the tonal chambers.

I saw it on a fretless bass but he's making also the same innovation over the fretted basses (soon I will upload the photos).

I just add it to my blog just to show this new innovation.

The main reason for this vibrating boards is (as told by Laurus) superb harmonics and great sensitivity.
I didn't try it, I just listen Mr.Pierluigi while was playing and I must agree that the sound is more warm and there is more delay. Also the harmonics sounds great.
But I'm not an expert so this is just what I saw

Ok, it's not the samething as play it but with a good recording we can hear the difference (hope so) .

I'd be interested in hearing the explanation of how he thinks it works. I'm not putting it down, but in my experiences, this reminds me of something that sounds like a cool thing, but in the big picture is just a way for the luthier to add 400 dollars to the cost of an already-too-expensive-for-me bass

If the cutouts truly vibrate, then they resonate with particular frequencies. I wonder how and to what extent those tones integrate with the magnetic pickup's interactions with the strings and the frequencies there.

I like the headstock too! Laurus makes excellent high end basses and isn't prone to make frivolous changes to his designs.

How about an openness and willingness to discuss, consider, and question without an under current of negativity.

But this is Talkbass. There's ALWAYS an under current of negativity wherever there is no P-bass involved.

However, it's interesting to me that just because someone isn't instantly sold on the idea, then they instantly have negative feelings toward it. I see more of a "prove it" attitude with talkbass. I'd just like to know how and if it works first before I jump on the bandwagon.

Yup, +1. TB has been used countless times for marketing purposes, and unfortunately a lot of those products have turned out to be vaporware or have had exaggerated claims made about them. So naturally, a skeptical attitude prevails.

I'm interested in learning more about this.
