LD HPA 1 Headphone Amp fault

I used my LD HPA 1 headphone amp at rehearsals on Thursday and all was fine, however I tried it today and when I switch the unit on I get the power on light (green for on/battery ok) plus the orange signal peak light is permanently on, even though nothing is connected to it?

I continued with it and connected the 2 x XLR’s but the signal peak light remains on and with headphones plugged in there is a high pitched whine.

I can honestly say I haven’t done anything to it or inadvertently mis connected anything and at rehearsal it was working fine right up to when I switched it off. I’ve taken the base off the HPA 1 to gain access to the wiring etc, the vast majority of it is just a circuit board though with the only visible wiring being to the XLR’s, the headphone socket and the 9 volt socket.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I had to ask!

You pulled it apart, have you worked on electronics before.
Most likely it's a fairly simple circuit, there may be a
power supply circuit in one form or another to provide a dual
rail supply for op amps, ect.

Basic stuff only, I’ve been mainly checking for a wire that’s dropped off, poor solder connection or shorting out, I know nothing about circuit boards. The only physical things that I could examine and test were the headphone socket, aux in socket and 9 volt wiring. XLR sockets are hard wired to the board. Everything else is on a circuit board so I guess something is fried on there.

Contact the manufacturer, there's nothing you are going to be able to fix without a little more knowledge and skill set.

I’ve just contacted LD detailing the problem and I am awaiting a response from them.

I suspect they will say it’s unrepairable as the cost of the repair would be in excess of the cost of a new HPA 1, but they may have come across the problem before and there just might be a quick fix?

LD have a specialist repair company that they use here in the U.K. and they have simply told me that it would be too expensive to repair, go by another one basically.

I thought that’s what the response would be, I’m not sure whether I will by another, I do like the HPA-1 but the Behringer headphone amp is half the price although it doesn’t have an aux-in socket.
