Yep, the only thing is the weight which I believe is around 42 lbs. It does make it lighter than than the VL-208. If was to put a compartment on top and use a soft-dome tweeter, it would probably come to 50 lbs.

That's part of the reason I got the cart option. I'm changing over from a very bg-biased to something that will favor my upright more. My current rig does have a rolling rack with an extendable handle. I usually extend the handle and sit the 112 on top while I roll it in. It's an awkward solution at best, and I still have to make a separate trip for the upright.

FWIW, the Patterson/LDS cabs that I have are fairly similar in size and weight to the VL-208's (with the EA's being a tad smaller but a tad heavier), but I must say that the size and proportions of this Patterson/LDS cab are such that they are small enough to comfortably toss around (with two hands!), yet large enough to present a stable, substantial rig. Their additional volume (and the nice job of insulation packing that Ralf does) seem to make for a "bigger" sound, too, and the lows are quite full, yet still quick and articulate. It's the closest thing to a VL-208 that I have heard, but yet it has its own vibe, too. I think tha they are louder than VL-208's (mine are 4 ohm), and two of them really move some air. In fact, the more I think about it, the more enamored I am with the balance of size/weight to volume/air moving ability. I prefer to think of them as "compact" cabs, versus "tiny" or "mini", if that makes any sense.
I may be running up to LDS tomorrow afternoon to check out their new 1x12 sub. Have you guys seen that on the web page?

Did you see what looks like a 1x12 with a 1x8 mounted on top via a pole? Looks a lot like the set-up that Durl was talking about in another thread; except with 2 1x8s.
Thanks! That doesn't look like anything for me, but it does make me feel less stupid about inquiring after two 1x8's connected by a swivel mount. There's a guy in town who has a single LDS 3-way 1x8; maybe if I can check that out, it would tell me what to do.

I was going to run up to LDS today to check out that 1x12 sub, but apparently Don is still testing out that design (meaning that they weren't going to let me buy the one in the photo! 
), so I'll make the trip another time. Plus, Ken Jung is out of town this weekend, and he really wants me to come up with my chambered MTD (and I want to play his new Jerzy Drozd), so I do plan on heading up sometime fairly soon.

Can anyone speculate on the viability of this hair-brained scheme: replace the 8" drivers in a VL208 with the B&C neos that Don is using for the LDS cabs? My thinking - reduce the weight of the 208, get more midrange, and not have to worry about port chuffing because of the TL design. I know the EA cabs (and most good ones, for that matter) either take the driver into consideration when designed or have the drivers made to match the cab, but still I wonder how it would sound...

Yes, two 5s, but the mids can be attenuated. Even with them on full, I find it to be a dark sounding cab at times - depending on the room and volume level. That could also be a function of the combination of my bass and pickup (Realist). Actually, the guy I bought my VL208 from also sent me an extra set of the orignal drivers (8s) that he had swapped out of another 208 for some newer ones. Anyway, I've got a 2nd 208 of my own coming in about a month, so I might do the experiment and A-B 'em!Tbeers said:

I just received word from Ralf that my Patterson 2x8 cabinet is being packaged for shipment today. Unfortunately, I'm currently without an amp, so the full review may take a while. I'll post a separate thread once the rig is up and running.
Thanks to Don, I know own a 3 way LDS 2x8 with the detachable cart, based on Macmrkt's design. I opted for the 4 ohm version, with L pads mounted on the side so you can easily reach them. Since I haven't taken it out on a actual gig yet I'll wait until I play in the club and post my thoughts. I really love practicing through it, sounds great!
