LDS-Then & Now!

Anyhow, since the 'Brick' always fit in the Rig Transport Device, I knew the new LDS 2 x 10 would make it. The amp goes in the trunk and the P-rides up front.

I also bought a collapsable two-wheeled cart that folds flat to carry these bass blocks to and from that stage too far. It saves me alot of effort before & after. Prices may vary from ACE Hardware, to COSTCO, or wherever.

Anyhow, the "stack" when assembled looked pretty cool. Little 'ol me and all this bass gear?

I run clean...for now. Just using what you see. At the time I was bummed that I had to buy a larger rack case, but I stuff the speakons, cord, & power cord for the amp in there.

I put the new cab on top because it is bassier than the 'brick' and I'm glad I did. The stage here has a nicely wooded floor, but all the low end goes right into it, so I had to do some dialing back again on mids & bass to get it out front.

The LH1000 and my LDS 2 x 10 cabs thundered all night. Refusing to cry 'uncle' or MOMMA! It kept giving back what I asked. Beefy deep bass tones, staying very true through 4 sets of cover rock. 10M until 2:AM.

I now miss the DR High Beams I had on the P. They were kinda dyin' but still were more characteristic and boomed more than the GHS Fatties I have on there now. (I got the 'Fatties' when I bought the bass in 2002 and didn't put them on until now). Even though I have Roto Sounds up next, I may go back to the High-Beams. They're a good string.

This coming Friday is LUNA in Royal Oak, MI. There we'll have a full PA and a hellish light show. It will interesting to note the differences in tone adjustments and on-stage feel. No 2 gigs are ever the same, and I feel lucky to have the challenges and gear to face them. And thank you all for indulging me on my gear score and commentary.

1) Nice ride
2) If it were me, I'd get a two space rack, and put cables somewhere else: gig bag, bass case, laptop bag...something.
3) that LH1000 has *guts* eh?
4) Tired strings can be rejuvenated by an overnight in denatured alcohol.
5) Been a while since I worked at a 2am club!!!

I was really interested if he did have a point regarding a 15 vs. 2 x 10. I batted this topic around here for about 3 weeks and got similar answers: todays 2 x 10's are pretty phenomenal. Match your cabs...if you can, and keep them similar in scope to prevent phasing issues.

1x15 = 15"
2x10 = 20"

write it down and hand it to your drummer.

Never trust a musician when it comes to sound. Most of them are pretty clueless. Sounds like your drummer has a case of speakersizeitis.

I have stacked them vertically, it does make quite a (cool) difference.

FYI regarding 10's vs 15s...


displacement volume of a normal 15 is around 300-500cc (depending on the quality)
displacement volume of a normal pair of 10s is around 200-400cc (depending on the quality)

In most cases, a 15 is going to displace more air than a pair of 10s. The reason for that is that dannster is a bit confused on what math is important.

7.5^2 * pi = ~176.7
5^2 * pi * 2 drivers = ~157.1


Then to get figures of real value you have to multiply that by the xmax (converting everything to centimeters first to get CCs).

Anyway, that aside, nothing is wrong with a 2x10 and a lot of them DO move more air than a 15...and they go higher than a 15 typically (unless they are BP102s which do not)

Someone mentioned in this thread to stack the 2 x 10's on end and on top of each other.
Actually that is the correct thing to do and I have stacked my 2 x 10 cabs like that for awhile now. The difference in tone is exceptional with no phasing. Drummers like it because they can hear the bass due to way better dispersion. Although, in some venues all I could hear was myself because the stack is high enough to nearly obliterate everything else on stage. The correction for that situation is to lie one flat on the floor and stack the other one on end and on top. Still no phasing and I am now no longer in a bubble.
Just a thought.

The cab next to them is an Epi 410UL; which is a relatively large 410.
Just for fun, here's my 4x8, with 2x8 on top...I don't have pics of them all stacked into an 8x8, but I can tell you it's relentless.
