LEAKED Fender Flea Jazz Bass Replica????

i was going through the Fender website yesterday night, checking all the basses they have, when I saw this bass. I googled it, but it seemed like nobody knew about this replica that Fender was selling, so I figured it was new, and when I checked the link again today, the site disappeared. Is this an old product which was discontinued, or do you think this was mistakenly put up by an employee before it was even announced?

A couple posts came up on TB yesterday and within 10 minutes the page was gone.

I am willing to bet it was an intentional leak...it would seem to me more highly anticipated once it actually does get announced for real. I don't think it's so easy to just put up a web page "accidentally"....but then again I don't know anything about putting up web pages....

Faded Shell Pink. I'll say, it's faded until it isn't even pink anymore!
Other than that, it looks better than the hardly roadworn 50's P basses, which are hardly roadworn at all.
Price is pretty good, too.

I have an adverse paying over $1k for a MIM fender. The peso is at a 10-year low right now, and has been.

Try going to Mexico and buy a MIM Fender. I have to no luck. Found three in a music store that were priced in peso to nearly match the US rate.

You would be surprised. A lot of back in CMS's have functionality where you can create pages and not publish them, but if another designer publishes the site without paying attention things can easily go live without intention.

My guess is that Fender is gauging enthusiasm for the bass on TB, and weighing that against any discussion of the pricing.

Breaking it down, the RW series was such a success receiving really good reviews from owners that this feature version is the perfect next step in that direction. The RW's were/are around that price so if that is the actual price it is in line regardless of where it's made. They still sell used for close to $1k. You have to gauge such looking at the whole company, which has losses in one area and gains in another economically and balances it all at the end of the day. Consider the Starcaster bass - not exactly a huge success there.
