Breaking it down, the RW series was such a success receiving really good reviews from owners that this feature version is the perfect next step in that direction. The RW's were/are around that price so if that is the actual price it is in line regardless of where it's made. They still sell used for close to $1k. You have to gauge such looking at the whole company, which has losses in one area and gains in another economically and balances it all at the end of the day. Consider the Starcaster bass - not exactly a huge success there.
Very good point about making a 'top of the line' model for a very positively reviewed group of basses. Might be the first of many, and they are GREAT playing basses for the money.
