Double Bass learning basic drums to improve rhythm and feel skills?

thanks once again guys I have begun practicing Jim Chapins Drum exercises!
My plan is to practice everything slowly and not move on too the next exercise till I have everthing locked down tight.
Btw I plan to also keep up an effective amount of bass practice aswell!
e.g. I still managed too transcribe an A and B section of ray brown walking today.

Studied percussion (marching and symphonic) in middle and high school, loooong before I ever picked up a bass. Did a lot of kit drumming at home in the same period. Can't say whether it helped, because it was always there, but I can't imagine that it hurt.

I still break out the pad and sticks at home every once in a while, and I sit in on drums for a tune or two when I go to a jazz jam. I recommend it- offline, familiarity with more than one instrument is usually considered a positive.

I just picked up one of Kenny Werners new DVDs that JazzHeaven.com published. Fascinating stuff. In it I realized that my 8th note feel/consistency is not as strong as I thought it was. It's the same problem Mr. Werner realized he had and found a way to fix the problem (tho it was not by drumming).

However, drumming can be a great tool to correct those types of things.
