Groove master, If your university is close to where I live I would personally drive to there and if u would allow me, I would demonstrate in a clinic about how to do this. I'm series about this.
Why not shoot a YouTube video and link it here?

It's not a completion, I would love to put on a clinic and demonstrate so kids can learn. I want the clinic to be friendly and not a big argument.

U dont need a scale u just learn notes. For example, in guitar when u teach someone to play an F chord u teach them the chord and the Notes UNDER THEIR FINGERS. It's harmony! When I was in harmony class u talk about harmony not scales.
Same with bass, u teach students notes to learn to read and then u teach chord tone arpeggios and teach them to know what's under their fingers.
Groove if I'm walking over a Bb7 chord I have Bb D F Ab as my strong choices to walk and if I move to a C major chord I might B as an approach note to C or use D to step into the C or the Bb to walk ino C. I look to emphasis the chord tones of each chord and walk into the next chord by approach notes.
Fergie the analysis of David tune is 98 percent chord tones! If u can't see that I'm sorry.
We have a winner! You really should probably listen to the whole song before you comment any further. You're basing your analysis on one page of a four page chart.
Chorus: The riff is just a B major scale followed by an E major scaleAgain, its not Perceived around scales it is seen around the CHORD!

Joe when u say scales r your friends I hear Carol Kaye, Pat Metheny, and every Jazz great laughing their heads off.
Here is a question....how many musicians here even know how to play all the chord tone arpeggios?
