Leather gig bag sewing thread?

homemade layout gauge consisting of a straight stick about 3/8" thick, pre-drilling the hole locations on the stick, and driving small nails through the holes in the stick and into the leather. An inexpensive and relatively effective technique from the stone age.
The use of nails suggests Bronze or more likely Iron age. Haven't seen much in the line of "stone nails that work as nails."

Your stitching is looking good! As in most things, there are multiple ways to get the job done. I use a groover on veg-tanned leather, mark, punch, stitch, and then finish. On items that see hard use, like belts and holsters, the groove protects the stitching somewhat by letting the thread lay lower than the surrounding surface. I have never used a groover on prefinished leather. I also haven't used prefinished leather much at all, so I lack both knowledge and experience there!

It’s still alive! I had to take a step back and make new side pieces. I left too little room for seams and the padding had no room at the seams to fold nicely. After some more stitching the bag is almost finished. I have to di some final tweaking with the zipper ends and melt the thread ends at the seams.
My Ibanez fits snugly in the bag, just like I planned. This bag will serve me well when driving to rehearsals.
