Leather strap suede-side break-in?

I was given a lovely leather 3" strap, but for the life of me I can never get comfortable with the suede side always pulling my shirts as I shift the bass up and down.
I also have an original 70's Musicman leather strap with my 78 StingRay, and as old as that strap is its the same exact way.

Is there a way to make the rough side more slippery?

I feel you. I hate a strap trying to re-arrange my clothing every time I move my bass.
I took one of my Levys straps to a shoe repair guy and had him sew a smooth leather backing over the suede. It worked great but most of my straps are smooth leather from the factory.
Good luck finding a cobbler, they're harder to find than VCR repairmen.

Get a leather strap that’s smooth on both sides.

I have a strap that I put gaff tape on the underside so that the suede wouldn't be so "grippy."

One of the advantages of suede is that it grips - great to stop neck dive. Get a regular leather strap.

i use leather guitar straps exclusively, all with the suede side up, so the smooth leather slides over my shirt just fine.

i like the 1-ply buttery-soft straps from long hollow leather, they're shiny black on one side and suede black on the other.

Get a seat-belt strap, problem solved:

TBH I tried ONE leather strap & didn't like it, so it became a hand-me-down.
