Leaving cables plugged in

doesn't really matter, though i always unplug mine. will it wear out faster? sure. do you unplug your bass every time? how long does it take to wear out? YEARS. i unplug my cabs because i'm paranoid; i don't want anything to fall on it or for something to bumb my cab- my dog weighs >130lb and likes to move furniture as she sees fit .
i do also run the cable through a handle to relieve stress on the jack......

Leave them in unless transporting. I refer to debating these things as "Figuring out the horn parts to an AC/DC song" It's a non starter. Wanna take it a step further? Does the name "Speakon" ring a bell!

The back of my LMK II has one speakon(which I mentioned in my original post) and one 1/4 plug, hence my original question.

I think plugging and unplugging wears them out faster. The contact has to flex over the tip of the cable to lock it in. I agree that continued weight (it would have to be a very heavy cable) on a plug that is sticking straight out of a jack (parallel to the floor) could wear over time, but multiple plugs and unplugs would wear them quicker.
Jacks are factory rated for a certain number of plugs and unplugs (usually many thousand) over their lifetime before needing replacement.

BTW. I'm referring to 1/4" jacks and plugs. Speakon's last much longer because the contacts are different.

There are things to think hard about and things not to. This issue falls into the latter category.

Think hard about
  1. Choice of career
  2. What car to buy
  3. Who to marry

Don't think hard about
  1. Should I unplug my cables when I'm not using them?
  2. Should I take my keys out of one pocket and put them in another?
  3. I'm thirsty and I want to drink some water.

But Bob, if you never plug 'em in to begin with in they last so much longer...;)

Hi Bob,

What if I were a castaway with three holes in my pockets...how would that figure in?
