Leaving for a Gig. Which Bass to Take?

Just goes to show how things differ. To me this is and "old" setlist. Crowd was younger than expected so we called some audibles.Honestly? Which bass doesn't matter; I wouldn't play 95% of those songs on a bet. Not because they're bad; just that I'm pretty much stuck in the pre-1975 musical era, and TBH? I've never even heard a lot of them. However... if they were songs that I'm familiar with? If I could only use one of my large herd of basses? Probably the A-necked '78 Fender P-Bass, with clones of the flats that it came from the factory with, under the foam mute in it's bridge cover. Light gauge, round core flats; not a lot of sustain, but... a whole lot less thumpy and "dead" than you'd think. The sound of the "Vintage" rock you heard on the radio, when you were a child...

It almost made the trip. If I could change one thing about it I'd add a series/parallel switch. I spent pretty much the whole gig in series.As the owner of a G&L M2500 and previous owner of a G&L L2500 I'd take the M2500 because it has the most versatile tone options (in my experience) however I'd also allow color of the bass to be a factor
I see a lot of people say p-bass with flats. I've never actually owed a pbass. I like how they sound for other people but its not me.
I'm returning to my 90's roots.....I don't thin I'll ever buy another passive bass. Heck right now I'm on the look out for a Modulus quantam 5 or Flea 5. Maybe a Warwick. Would be nice if GC had sone and I could trade in some stuff I never use anymore.

I love how pbass/flats sounds & looks, but after temporarily owning 6 different ones, none "felt" right.
Still searching,....but I've been a 99% Warwick player, 11 of them so far
Yeah just never been my thing for my own playing either.
I'll get a Warwick at some point. Local shop has a nice used 5 string Corvette. German-made. Love the bass and if it were active it would have went home with me. Looking at the control cavity it probably wouldn't be hard to do.
I really don't think your choice would matter much to anybody, customers or bandmates, at the gig/

You just need to order these parts from Warwick: battery box, 2 or 3 band eq pots kit , stacked knobs for bass/treb (2 band) or add another stack for push/pull volume/ pickup pan selector(3 band)...thats it
pretty simple, pretty cheap.
I would say grab that German Corvette now and play it...you might not even want to make it active, but you can at anytime...
I believe on many they just put their batteries in the control cavity?
Id be fine with 2 band. Might be nice to keep the tone control.
The tone control just rolls of highs on Warwicks, I would replace with the stacked bass/treb knobs (for 2 band)so you can keep it as is (3 knob layout) instead of drilling more holes and modding....
keep the passive electronics in a drawer incase you ever wanna switch back
The warwick passives have strong signal output! and for more eq tweaking you also have controls on your amp ... My passives, actives and modified actives all end up getting played at flat settings anyways so I actually prefer my passive vettes and wouldn't bother modding again, but it also wouldnt stop me from buying an active...
Very different rolloff frequencies though.
Ive never played a single note at any gig or rehearsal "flat". On amp or bass. I like a very eq'd or processed sound. Never heard a passive that didnt need low end bumped up.
