LeCompte Custom Fretless ORDERED!

I finally pulled the trigger on having a custom bass built. I am so stoked! Bud LeCompte has been fantastic to work with. I chose his ST-SS body style with a Mahogony body, Spalted Maple top, unlined ebony fingerboard, and long list of features.

This will be my first 5 string bass. I presently play a pair of Warwick Infinity's one fretted and one fretless. I've been seeking that ultimate fretless tone and I think this LeCompte is going to be the ticket. :hyper:

Here is an update. This picture shows an outstanding spalted Maple selection that Bud made for me.

The body is Mahogony for a massive bottom end tone and the accent is Walnut for brightness. The fingerboard will be madagascar Ebony. The neck is hard maple with 1/4 inch babinga stringers which are very close to the color of the walnut accents.

Nordstand is making Walnut pup covers that expose the poles. Bud opted to have Nordstrand do this with his laser cutter because the wood is so thin. That small detail will slow the project unfortunatly.

Bud has been absolutly fantastic to work with.

Wow, that's gonna be smokin'! Your bass is kind of going to be like my STSS's fused together. Any chance that spalt top comes from the same board that #28 (fretted P/J) did?

This is the piece of maple before Master Bud got a hold of it. I told him That I wanted a fairly busy piece with visual interest on the horn and edge sections. Its amazing that he could see potential in this plank.

What does your LeCompte look like Yvon? What do you like most about it?

This is what it look like

I really like the playability, I ordered an 18" radius, I like it pretty flat. I also really like the sound, it took me a little while to find the right strings. I think my favorite ones are DR nickel.
Bud was amazing to work with. I think that is the main reason I would order another one. Many bass maker could build me a great bass, but Bud had a great communication, sent me E-mails almost daily.
