Lefties who play righty

Hey, when I first started playing I was 10 my Dad was a jazz drummer. He was a lefty who played righty. I started on drums but played lefty. When I started playing bass at 17 righty felt more natural. So I'm more fluent with my fretting and my fingering is quite good and quick if need be. However my slapping is just not where I'd like it to be. My right hand can't come close to the left when it comes to popin. I'd love to know if this is a problem for other lefties who play right?

When I got my first guitar at 7 I started playing I played both ways, it was my Mom (a lefty) that helped me to make the 'right' decision. She wanted me to have some lessons so she inquired with some guitar teachers that all strongly advised that unless there was some physical reason to play left handed to play righty. Reasons being the availability of instruments, lessons, literature and that the left hand really did the more complex part anyway.
Luckily that worked out as I soon after that also began to play cello and later upright bass. Then and there was no such thing as a left handed cello or other orchestral instrument.

Very interesting. I too had parents who said playing lefty had several problems built in. I did however play drums lefty, it just came natural. But as far as guitar and bass there was no one with lefty axes. So I learned righty. And I think for the most part it was never a problem. Except sloppy! That's were i found it suffers.
