Lefty or righty?

I was just thinking the other day that I'd like to get a left-handed Mustang bass and learn how to play all over again from scratch.

I am slightly ambidextrous anyway, even though I am primarily right-handed, I swing baseball bats, hockey sticks, golf clubs and axes like a lefty.

I had no idea until the first time I went to bat in kids' softball.

I have the feeling that if left-handed basses and guitars were the standard that I could have just as easily learned to play fretting with my right and plucking with my left.

I don't know if I could have learned strumming with my left so easily, but plucking or picking with a plectrum, yes.

Maybe I just have too much time on my hands to be even pondering these things.

Which side feels natural for you when holding the bass?

I'm a bit like you: right-handed and lefty for some sports and when I held a bass for the first time it was upside-down. So I played lefty because this is what felt natural for me and I don't regret ;-)

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

I'm right handed, no question. I kick the ball with the right leg, too.

But, bats, sticks, golf clubs, all lefty position.
Surfboard, skateboard, left foot on the front.

I even write like a lefty, but with the right hand.


But bass, righty position. I don't see myself doing it the other way, feels very, very strange.
