This thread reminds me of a poem written by Martin Niemoller.

First they came for the bleu cheese dressing, but I did not speak up, because I had never enjoyed a good slice of Roquefort

Then they came for the balsamic vinaigrette dressing, but I did not speak up, because I am allergic to Trebbiano grapes

Then they came for the Italian dressing, but I did not speak up, because I thought it was too tangy

...

Sir, put down the bottle of Tabasco, and step away. No one has to get hurt.

Wasn't there some kind of hilarious fight that ensued between him and a sheriff? Or am I thinking of a Mel Brooks movie...?
LOL, It was real, but it was like a Mel Brooks movie. Marvin Zindler was a bizarre member of the news team at a Houston TV station. He was the one who went after scams, health inspection issues, and anything else that might improve his ratings.
There had been since Texas was Texas a famous "house of ill repute" in Lagrange. It was a rite of passage for A&M and Texas football players. One of the traditions was that the alumni of the winning team after the A&M/Texas game each year was to fund a trip to the ranch.
Marvin put it on his hit list. The locals didn't want him interfering because it was positive impact on the local economy. The legislature didn't want him interfering because it was their weekend retreat. Marvin took his news crew to Lagrange. He got in the Sheriff's face, who also didn't want him interfering, and the Sheriff popped him one in the face. It was famous.
The musical and movie "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" is based on that incident.
