There should be a sticker on the underside of the guard with the serial number.
Well spotted! It’s info like like this that keeps me reading these “is this a legit Fender?” threads. I’m learning, little by little....Really nice clean bass. Don't think the pup cover came with slotted screws, though.

Like I said, I'm not a Fender guy so it isn't my thing but I could tell it's a fine example of a good Classic P bass. So I took it over to a fellow bassists place tonight, and he's a P bass freak. He fell it love with it right away and bought it on the spot! I know he will appreciate it. I would have loved to have bought it from the guy just to have, but I would have never played it.
Is that a crack at the bottom of the fingerboard, at the truss rod access? May just be my monitor...
