Legit 78 Precision??

COME ON TB you guys are getting sloppy that thing is obviously fake!!!! Probably a squier or some Chinese knock off if you PM i'll take it off your hands and offer you a good price for itdrooldrooldrooldrool no need to keep a FAKE 1978 all original Fender precision bass:D:D:D:D:D:D

There should be a sticker on the underside of the guard with the serial number.

There may also be one under the neck/pickups, I think one of my three 70s fenders had a sticker in one of the cavities. And if you're taking the neck off to check, you can also check for the 8 digit stamp on the heel of the neck. They can wear away with time or be otherwise hard to read, but it's a good way to get an exact date on the manufacture. Not that I'd doubt the legitimacy of the parts here, the guard and body have aged well together, the serial and features check out, case looks right, etc., but things that could be checked.

Looks good to me. I also have a 78 Precision. I love the neck on this bass!

Like I said, I'm not a Fender guy so it isn't my thing but I could tell it's a fine example of a good Classic P bass. So I took it over to a fellow bassists place tonight, and he's a P bass freak. He fell it love with it right away and bought it on the spot! I know he will appreciate it. I would have loved to have bought it from the guy just to have, but I would have never played it.
