Legit 78 Precision??

There may also be one under the neck/pickups, I think one of my three 70s fenders had a sticker in one of the cavities. And if you're taking the neck off to check, you can also check for the 8 digit stamp on the heel of the neck. They can wear away with time or be otherwise hard to read, but it's a good way to get an exact date on the manufacture. Not that I'd doubt the legitimacy of the parts here, the guard and body have aged well together, the serial and features check out, case looks right, etc., but things that could be checked.

Like I said, I'm not a Fender guy so it isn't my thing but I could tell it's a fine example of a good Classic P bass. So I took it over to a fellow bassists place tonight, and he's a P bass freak. He fell it love with it right away and bought it on the spot! I know he will appreciate it. I would have loved to have bought it from the guy just to have, but I would have never played it.

Besides the screws. The chrome pickup cover isnt original either. That one is pretty flat with sharp bends.
A post 76 chrome cover has rounded bends and a very prominent arch over the pickup.
The one on there doesnt look Fender made.

I'm surprised that they had the finish in 78. Late 70's Fenders were pretty vanilla, i.e., black, natural, sunburst, and white finishes.
