Legit? MIJ 82-84 JV Squier Precision

He didn't say either way. Just that it was a '82-83 JV. He messaged me in response to a bass I have for sale as a trade proposal. If it's real, it'd more than worth it. But hard to tell. I meet him in 5-1/2hrs.

That's what I thought... Rather low JV number, too. He says it's an '82, which jives with the plate, but I didn't know they made fiesta red in '82. ‍

You really can’ tell the date unless you take the neck off.

Yep, long time ago. They are pretty good basses and command a decent price too. Had one and foolishly let it go.

Me too. Bought it in Kyoto for the equivalent of $150. Sold it a decade later when I left Japan for what I paid for it. Doh!

It's real. I had one that was a Jazz bass just like that. Long gone but replaced many times over at this point...

My question would be, does it have the "router hump" in the cutaway?

Though I can't see much wrong with the actual neck in the pictures, I would venture that the hardware is unusually clean, the pickguard layers are all wrong, the red doesn't much resemble the red on JV's I've seen over here in Europe, and - though it could just be the photo - the "J" of "JV" seems to lack a crosspiece at the top.

Well, he let me take it apart. The neck is for sure real. But you're right, the hardware is just way too new, the red is not right, it looks like the wiring is original (it is cloth wrapped, and the pots look right, but it is just waaaaaaaay too clean inside) No fender sticker in the neck pocket either and the plate font, not just the J, is wrong.

Sounds good though and the neck is for sure authentic.

Gonna have to sleep on that one.
